Our last morning in Mykonos, we decided to head to a village outside of the main town Hora, called Ano Mera. The guide book and our host at the hotel told us that it was a beautiful traditional place to visit with a centuries old monastery and a quaint main square. When we got there at 9 in the morning, the town was barely awake, with a few older men smoking cigarettes in the cafe. It was lovely indeed, but by 10, we were ready to go, so we headed back to Hora and enjoyed getting lost yet again in the narrow streets... Jason, Emily and Jack checking out the map and trying to figure out the route we had just taken. This picture is not posed at all.
It was a blue day at the waterfront and we spent the morning getting some last shots of the gorgeous island.
We grabbed one last gyro at the best gyro place in Mykonos (we did sample a few) and then bid goodbye to our host (who strangely enough had once lived in Orinda) as he dropped us off at the port to catch the Flying Cat 4, a sleek, motorized catamaran destined for Santorini.
4 hours later, we'd checked into the Villa Iantha at the Hotel Volcano View Villas, and after a 15 minute debriefing by our host Niko, a hilarious Canadian Greek, we walked over to the nearby Santos winery, and had a 12 wine tasting with cheese and olives as we watched the sun set over the caldera (the volcano crater).
A pleasant dinner at Tavern Pyrgos in a nearby town, and then back to our beautiful villa with the beautiful night view...
